Prices....

We know it is easy and very convenient to shop at the grocery store, you are already there buying your milk and bread, but at their prices, it is worth the special trip to The Wine and Cheese Place.    I have, of course, seen some sale prices that will periodically equal or slightly  beat our price, but usually with our mix/match case price, we are still cheaper.   You can be confident when you  shop at The Wine and Cheese Place that you are getting the best prices without having to chase down "on sale" or "one day sales."

We don't have the advertising budget that the big chains have, we ask you to tell your friends about our selection and prices!  Help us educated them and save them a ton of money over the course of a year.

Here is some proof...
Out tonight doing some grocery shopping and I walked down the wine aisle and was shocked at the price of Veuve Clicquot NV Yellow Label at Dierbergs.   I then stopped by Schnucks on the way home to check some of their prices.
Dierbergs: $68.99
Schnucks: $62.99 on sale,  regular $68.99
The Wine and Cheese Place: only $39.99.

Both of them also at Moet and Chandon Imperial at around $62 and our price is $38.   I decided to check a few liquors also and noticed...
Stolichnaya Vodka at $44.99 1.75 liter Dierbergs
The Wine and Cheese Place: $26.99 for a 1.75ltr
(our price will be changing soon, but it will still be under $30)

Price comparison
Dom Perignon Champagne
....$217.99 Schnucks (we are $83 cheaper per bottle!)
....$205.99 Dierbergs (we are $71 cheaper per bottle!)
....$134.99 The Wine and Cheese Place

Stolichnaya Vodka 1.75
...$42.69 Schnucks
....$44.99 Dierbergs
....$26.99 The Wine and Cheese Place
Think about it, what if you go through a bottle per week of Stoli, you save $15.70 per week compared to Schnucks. - that is $816.40 per year in your pocket! Or you go through 1 per month = $188.40 per year.  It adds up fast!

Absolut Vodka 1.75
....$33.99 Schnucks
....$29.99 The Wine and Cheese Place

Ketel One Vodka 1.75
...$44.99 Schnucks
....$37.99 The Wine and Cheese Place

Skyy Vodka 1.75
...$29.99 Schnucks
....$22.99 The Wine and Cheese Place

Smirnoff Vodka 1.75
...$23.99 Schnucks

Svedka Vodka 1.75

Tito's Handmade Vodka 1.75lt

If you have a regular liquor or wine you buy somewhere else, just email or call me to check out our price.  I am sure we will be cheaper.   Or if you have old receipts of recent liquor purchases email me the prices and I will give you our comparison.    Or do you know what your friend drinks on a regular basis, let us know and we will get you the price to show them how much they can save.  .

Urban Chestnut 4 packs
...$8.69 Schnucks
...$8.99 The Wine and Cheese Place

Beer we usually round to the .49 or .99. Yes, they got us by 30 cents on that one. I keep our beer as fresh as possible also, Urban Chestnut does not date their beer, so it can be risky at a grocery store that buys multiple cases and possibly does not get properly rotated. Our 6 packs of Bud products are usually cheaper than them also - $5.39 / 6pk, not sure their current price.

All of our regular Schlafly 6 packs are $6.99 everyday -- I think they are at least $7.99?

Thanks Paul, TWCP rocks and I do tell everyone about it. Keep up the good work.

I get Schlafly at $6.49 pretty often at Schnucks. That said prices vary weekly. I like TWCP for the imports.

If you're going to make a bold statement that your prices are almost always cheaper, you should also prepare to be proven otherwise. When you get called out on a specific area or two where the prices are cheaper elsewhere you choose to respond condescendingly "they got us by 30 cents," and then try to discredit your competitors rotations, etc. Instead, try dropping the self-imposed ego, and simply match (or as you say, beat) the price instead.

I know some places will be cheaper at times. I was pointing out prices that were $5, $10, $15, $20 and even $80 per bottle cheaper (on the Dom Perignon) at our store compared to the chains. I guess I took it wrong when somebody points out 30 cents difference on an item. I don't think people would make a special drive for 30 cents but for $5 or $10+ dollars it would be worth it. My big picture point is that if you buy all your liquor at our stores, you will save big over the course of the year. If you go through the trouble of driving around and buying different items at different stores, of course you can find some better deals here and there, but that takes a lot of time and work. If you buy all your liquor at the grocery stores during the year, you will be losing a lot of money. Not sure if it has anything to do with ego, it was more shock. I did not plan on checking prices, but the Veuve Clicquot caught my eye when I was in the store. I could not believe the price and decided to check a few others.

Schnucks routinely lists all of their regular wine & liquor prices far above normal retail, and then has about 99% of said wine & liquor "on sale" year-round. The on sale price is generally comparable to regular retail at your store. You are possibly listing the higher price even though it's on sale all the time at the Schnucks register. Regardless, you could just go to Costco, and save even more:

Dom Perignon Champagne
... $124.97 Costco
... $134.99 The Wine and Cheese Place

Sierra Nevada Celebration
... $5.37 Costco
... $7.99 The Wine and Cheese Place

As far as Schnucks, I did list their sale price, not their regular price. The Veuve Clicquot sign I took the picture you see says regular $68.99 and on sale at $62.99 (I just had to raise our price to $41.99). Ketel One said $50.19 on sale at $44.99 (our price $37.99). Unless the prices change at the register, none of their sale prices were even close to our regular prices. Schlafly $8.29 on sale at $7.99 tonight. Above somebody commented that Schnucks has Schlafly on sale $6.49 at times, but we are at $6.99 everyday. I am at the Webster Groves Schnucks at least twice a week and have never seen the liquor prices come close to ours and have not seen the Schlafly $6.49 sale mentioned above. I double checked their Budweiser 6pks tonight and they are $6.39 and ours our $5.39 every day. I am sure at times their sale price on Bud products might meet or beat ours, but you can be confident in our price every week is the same. We don't do artificially high prices. Of course, we are all out here trying to get a bigger piece of the pie and fight for business. I am just giving people the facts and hoping they will try us out. Do you have a favorite liquor or wine you buy somewhere else, what does it hurt for you to give us a call or email me for our price. We don't hide our prices, we will gladly tell you our price. It could save you some money. Call us while you are standing at the grocery store looking at the price if you want to.

I overhead somebody talking about Kendall Jackson Chardonnay tonight while I was at Schnucks and saying it is $6 a bottle off let's get some to her husband. Their sale is $11.49 (with $6 off) and our price on Kendall Jackson is $9.99 everyday and it has been for years, as long as I can remember.

Again, my big point was not to bash Schnucks or Dierbergs (I shop at both of them), it was to educate about our prices. We suffer from the stereotype that a specialty store is much more expensive. I over heard 3 guys in on Saturday for the first time looking and saying how shocked they were at the great prices, they assumed we would be expensive. You don't have to wait for sales, you can be confident that you are not overpaying. If you shop for liquor on a regular basis the savings will be considerable.

As far as Costco, I honestly have only been in the store once and it was a long time ago. I remember thinking that we were very competitive with them on pricing and of course our selection is much more extensive. They are obviously a great store as big as they have gotten. Obviously, because of where I work, I am a huge fan of supporting local retail and restaurants. I would much rather give my business to Schnucks and Dierbergs since they are local rather than Costco, Sam's Club, Trader Joe's, or Walmart. Same with restaurants, we do our best to avoid chain restaurants. The biggest reason to avoid them is the that each town loses its personality and they are becoming cookie cutter towns. Do we want the same restaurants and same stores everywhere we go? When you travel, you want to be able to see new restaurants, not the same old ones that you visit at home. All of these chains keep getting bigger and bigger and the small restaurants and shops have a tougher time staying in business. I will try to at some point get a bigger sample size from Costco to compare prices. I am assuming the prices you had were from at least a month ago since the Celebration Ale has been gone for awhile. We raised our Dom Perignon price a few weeks ago, it was $129.99. I would be curious to see how we stand on the big volume liquor brands like Dewars 1.75, Stolichnaya 1.75, Absolut 1.75 and so on.

It appears that you, or someone, deleted the original post. Your original post attempted to call Schnucks & Dierbergs "major chains," and it would seem that Costco fits into that general category. Suddenly you are also finding validity in comparing a $.50 savings on Schlafly and a $1 savings on Bud products, yet you were "shocked" to the point of responding with utter rudeness over $.30 when you were called out on Urban Chestnut.

I have not changed or deleted the post or any of the comments? My only reason for pointing out the Schlafly is because of the comment of somebody mentioning it at $6.49. I mentioned the Bud because I commented on it myself without knowing Schnucks price, so I checked the price last night and wanted to update that earlier comment.
