2011 Chapoutier Bila-Haut Rouge....$11.99
St. Louis Post-Dispatch on the previous vintage....
"While I often question wine scores given by critics, I have to admit that I am influenced by them. It's particularly hard for me to ignore a bottle of wine that costs less than $15 and has won more than 90 points because such a high rating indicates an unusual level of quality and taste. Regardless of whether I end up thinking the wine is terrific or a bit overrated, it's usually still worth trying.
Such was the case with the Michel Chapoutier 2010 Les Vignes de Bila-Haut Côtes du Roussillon Villages that received 92-94 points from Robert Parker. (The range indicates the wine was from the barrel, while a single score is given to wines tasted from a bottle.) The Wine and Cheese Place, 7435 Forsyth Boulevard in Clayton, advertised the wine for $11.99, so I couldn't resist. I'm glad I bought it, because this is a delicious wine....." -- Gail Appelson St. Louis Post Dispatch -- read the full article
