2009 Domaine Aimé Minervois
Tasting Notes: This is a very rich and silky Minervois. The nose is full of briar fruit and spice, with hints of sandalwood and white pepper. In the mouth the wine is lush with black raspberry, cherry, and garrigue notes. In contrast to the rich flavors in the wine, the finish is soft and silky, with extremely ripe tannins. This is a very versatile wine that would be a perfect compliment to most grilled meats, and barbeque dishes.
2010 Terres Falmet Cinsault
Tasting Notes: It is rare to find a red wine made entirely from Cinsault, and rarer yet to find one with this much concentration and character. Since this wine is made exclusively from older vines grown on hillsides, the wine is unusually concentrated for Cinsault. However, thanks to the nature of Cinsault, the wine is round with incredibly soft tannins. We equate the weight of the wine to a well made Pinot Noir. However, the flavors are quite different. The wine is full of black fruit, with hints of blueberry, and white pepper. This is a versatile wine that can be served with everything from red meat, to poultry, tuna, and pizza.
2009 Monplézy - Coteaux du Languedoc, Pézenas “PLAISIRS”
Tasting Notes: This is a rich ripe wine with a lot of black fruit. The Syrah and Grenache give the wine its lush black cherry, raspberry, and cassis fruit flavors. Meanwhile, the Carignan grapes, from vines planted in 1955, add an exotic spicy dimension to the wine. Finally, the Cinsault adds a silky texture to the wine, helping to tone down the tannins. The combination of flavors in the “Plaisirs”, along with its nice silky texture, makes it a very versatile wine. It is a great match for summer barbeque, as well as winter roasts.
2009 Château Haut Lignières Faugeres 1er
Tasting Notes: With its relatively high percentage of Mourvèdre, this is a dark and brooding Faugères. In the glass the wine has a concentrated, deep purple color. The nose is perfumed with sweet blackberry and black raspberry aromas. In the mouth it is lush with rich black fruit flavors, and hints of blueberry and coco. Even with its deep concentration, the tannins are surprisingly supple and silky. This wine is simultaneously a sumptuous wine built for enjoyment, in addition to being an age worthy wine for the cellar.
2009 Mas de Brunes “Cuvée des Cigales” – Vin de Pays Côtes de Thongue
Blend: 100% Old Vine Syrah (tiny yield of 25 hl/ha)
Tasting Notes: The 2009 “Cuvée des Cigales” is completely dominated by black fruit. The nose is full of deep blackberry and plum aromas. In the mouth black cherry and blackberry flavors mix with the exotic and complex spice flavors from the Carignan. This is a burly, muscular wine with a lot of character. While an ideal match for grilled meats and game, we also enjoy this wine with the more complex, spicier flavors of barbecue and chili.
2010 Domaine de Servans Cotes du Rhone
Blend: Grenache 78%, Syrah 22% from 40 year old vines
Tasting Notes: Domaine de Servans produces a truly classic Côtes du Rhône. The nose is perfumed with bright red raspberry, and cherry aromas. In the mouth the wine is dominated by the Grenache which produces dark black cherry flavors, with hints of black pepper and garrigue spices. The finish is balanced and silky with soft velvety tannins. This a fun, versatile wine that is a great match for grilled meats, burgers, back-yard barbeque and even pizza
