2010 Chateau Virgile Costières de Nîmes Blanc
Blend: Marsanne 40%, Roussanne 40%, and Viognier 20%
Tasting Notes: Château Virgile’s white is truly a classic Rhône blend. The Roussanne, with peach and apricot flavors, gives the wine weight, texture, and body. Next, the Marsanne adds lively acidity, a hint of minerality, and citrus fruit flavors. Finally, the Viognier adds tropical fruit flavors to the wine, as well as beautiful, floral aromatics. This is a great wine for just about any type of shellfish, especially seared scallops
2011 Domaine La Croix Gratiot Picpoul de Pinet
Tasting Notes: For a grape variety that can sometimes be aggressive, this is an beautifully balanced Picpoul. The nose is perfumed with floral, and tropical fruit notes. In the mouth the wine is full of stone fruit, melon, and fruit cocktail notes. The soft fruit is tempered with an intense minerality, and citrus notes. Picpoul de Pinet has always been a textbook match for oysters, mussels, and just about any other type of shellfish you can imagine. Schreyer Alsace Edelzwicker
50% Pinot Blanc, 20% Pinot Gris,20% Sylvaner, 10% Gewurztraminer
Tasting Notes: Since understanding what the grape varieties in this blend contribute to this wine greatly helps in its appreciation, here is a breakdown of the grapes, and the general characteristics they add to this wine. Pinot Blanc - is a crisp, bright grape variety that gives the wine a hint of peach and citrus fruit flavors. Pinot Gris - adds structure, body, and richness, it also imparts rich apricot fruit flavors. Sylvaner - is a lighter-bodied grape variety that brings a subtle earthiness to the wine. Gewurztraminer - gives the wine its floral nose, and adds notes of tropical fruit (lychee) and spice to the wine. The Schreyer Edelzwicker is a fun, easy-drinking wine that makes an excellent aperitif. Its wonderful aromatics and bright fruit make it a perfect match for fish, poultry, and Asian cuisine.

Jean Louis Denois Brut Chardonnay
"Denois’s non-vintage Chardonnay Brut Blanc de Blancs. Legally, this “traditional method” wine is merely a vin mousseux, yet it is in fact a tribute to the terroir of Limoux (whose sparkling wine appellation must be based on the local Blanquette de Limoux a.k.a. Mauzac grape, for which Denois evidently has little respect). It will be hard to find a more delicious and interesting sparkling wine for the price. Ripe apricot, grapefruit, blueberries, and lily in the nose lead to an intensely pit-fruited palate that – despite a mere five grams of residual sugar – suggests a hint of sweetness on account of its sheer ripeness. Yet, there are suggestions of saline, chalky minerality here as well, a fine mousse, and a refined finish. This will be easy to guzzle but not to forget. Bravo Denois!" -- The Wine Advocate
2009 Domaine Aimé Minervois
Tasting Notes: This is a very rich and silky Minervois. The nose is full of briar fruit and spice, with hints of sandalwood and white pepper. In the mouth the wine is lush with black raspberry, cherry, and garrigue notes. In contrast to the rich flavors in the wine, the finish is soft and silky, with extremely ripe tannins. This is a very versatile wine that would be a perfect compliment to most grilled meats, and barbeque dishes. 70% Carignan, and 30% Syrah

2010 Terres Falmet Cinsault
Tasting Notes: It is rare to find a red wine made entirely from Cinsault, and rarer yet to find one with this much concentration and character. Since this wine is made exclusively from older vines grown on hillsides, the wine is unusually concentrated for Cinsault. However, thanks to the nature of Cinsault, the wine is round with incredibly soft tannins. We equate the weight of the wine to a well made Pinot Noir. However, the flavors are quite different. The wine is full of black fruit, with hints of blueberry, and white pepper. This is a versatile wine that can be served with everything from red meat, to poultry, tuna, and pizza.
2009 Monplézy - Coteaux du Languedoc, Pézenas “PLAISIRS”
Tasting Notes: This is a rich ripe wine with a lot of black fruit. The Syrah and Grenache give the wine its lush black cherry, raspberry, and cassis fruit flavors. Meanwhile, the Carignan grapes, from vines planted in 1955, add an exotic spicy dimension to the wine. Finally, the Cinsault adds a silky texture to the wine, helping to tone down the tannins. The combination of flavors in the “Plaisirs”, along with its nice silky texture, makes it a very versatile wine. It is a great match for summer barbeque, as well as winter roasts.
2009 Château Haut Lignières Faugeres 1er
Tasting Notes: With its relatively high percentage of Mourvèdre, this is a dark and brooding Faugères. In the glass the wine has a concentrated, deep purple color. The nose is perfumed with sweet blackberry and black raspberry aromas. In the mouth it is lush with rich black fruit flavors, and hints of blueberry and coco. Even with its deep concentration, the tannins are surprisingly supple and silky. This wine is simultaneously a sumptuous wine built for enjoyment, in addition to being an age worthy wine for the cellar.
2009 Mas de Brunes “Cuvée des Cigales” – Vin de Pays Côtes de Thongue
Blend: 100% Old Vine Syrah (tiny yield of 25 hl/ha)
Tasting Notes: The 2009 “Cuvée des Cigales” is completely dominated by black fruit. The nose is full of deep blackberry and plum aromas. In the mouth black cherry and blackberry flavors mix with the exotic and complex spice flavors from the Carignan. This is a burly, muscular wine with a lot of character. While an ideal match for grilled meats and game, we also enjoy this wine with the more complex, spicier flavors of barbecue and chili.
2010 Domaine de Servans Cotes du Rhone
Blend: Grenache 78%, Syrah 22% from 40 year old vines
Tasting Notes: Domaine de Servans produces a truly classic Côtes du Rhône. The nose is perfumed with bright red raspberry, and cherry aromas. In the mouth the wine is dominated by the Grenache which produces dark black cherry flavors, with hints of black pepper and garrigue spices. The finish is balanced and silky with soft velvety tannins. This a fun, versatile wine that is a great match for grilled meats, burgers, back-yard barbeque and even pizza
2009 Chateau Virgile Costières de Nîmes Rouge
Blend: Syrah 60%, Grenache 30%, and Mourvèdre 10%
Tasting Notes: This is a rich and intense Costières de Nîmes dominated by Syrah fruit in the blend. In the nose black fruit mixes with garrigue spice. The mouth is full of black raspberry, black cherry, cassis, and white pepper. This wine shows an extraordinary amount of character and complexity for a entry-level Costières de Nîmes.
2009 Natacha Chave Aléofane Crozes-Hermitage
Blend: 100% Syrah
unfined and unfilterred
"The superb 2009 Crozes-Hermitage Aleofane offers up complex aromas of Christmas fruitcake, licorice, black currants, roasted herbs and forest floor. On the palate, the wine is opulent, voluptuously textured, full-bodied, rich and silky smooth. It should drink well for a decade or more."
