2007 Les Bosquet de Papes

Les Bosquet de Papes -- 2007 Vintage "This is one of the appellation’s most consistent and brilliant producers of Chateauneuf du Pape, with an impressive record of consistency and high quality dating back well over the thirty years I have been tracking the wines of this appellation. They have been adding new cuvees, starting in 1990 with their Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes, and then their old vine Grenache cuvee, La Gloire de Mon Grandpere. In 2007 they added a new cuvee from very old vines of Grenache and Mourvedre on the plateau of Mont Redon called La Folie, which is aged in 100% new oak foudres." --- Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

2007 Les Bosquet des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition...$35.99

(also available in magnum -- $79.99)

"The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape, which comes from 45- to 50-year-old vines and is a blend of 75% Grenache, 12% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, and the rest Vaccarese, Counoise, and Cinsault, is aged in foudres, tank, and 600-litre demi-muids. This wine displays beautiful black cherry and plum-like fruit, with a gorgeous nose of nori (the seaweed wrappers used in sushi restaurants) intermixed with pepper, lavender, and spice. Very Provencal and full-bodied, with beautiful fruit purity and stunning density and personality, it should drink well for 10-12 years."

2007 Les Bosquet des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape

a la Gloire de Mon Grandpere...$53.99
"The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape a la Gloire de Mon Grandpere comes from 60- to 70-year-old vines (98% Grenache and 2% Cinsault and the white grape Clairette, which always accounts for the slightly lighter color of this wine). It also comes from one of the hallowed sectors of Chateauneuf du Pape in the north called Gardioles, which has clay soils overlaid with small boulders. This wine displays the classic Grenache character of pure kirsch liqueur mixed with licorice and a hint of resiny pine needles. Dark ruby, deep, full-bodied, and incredibly sexy and seductive, I could have drunk this wine directly from one of the foudres, This has terrific fruit and is a brilliant expression of naked Grenache from a great terroir. It should drink well for 10-15 years."

2007 Les Bosquet des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape

Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes...$63.99 (also available in magnum -- $132.99)
"The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes is 84% Grenache and equal parts Syrah and Mourvedre from 80- to 90-year-old vines on pure limestone overlaid with the famed rocks the locals call galets roules. It is aged half in large wood foudres and the other half in 600-litre demi-miuds. This wine may turn out to be their best since their debut release of this cuvee in 1990. Full-bodied, with notes of kirsch, incense, black currant, cassis, plum, fig, and roasted Provencal herbs as well as some meaty juices, the wine is layered, dense, sexy, decadently rich and powerful, but incredibly well-balanced because of the freshness of the fruit in this vintage. This wine should age magnificently for 20+ years."
