I have tried this wine in previous vintages and always thought it was "ok", but this year it is off the charts for value. Gorgeous nose and a wonderful mouthfeel. This will be a great Chardonnay over the next 6-9 months. (I think it deserves a 90-91 score)
"Their 2007 Novellum Chardonnay – this year from two sites with cobbled and alluvial soils, 30% of which is barrel-fermented – has outdone those previous installments I have tasted, with subtle aromas of white peach, toasted almond, hazelnut, flowers and fine herbs. In the mouth, it offers an uncanny balance of leesy creaminess with lightness of touch and refreshment. (The lees here included those of Viognier.) And once again, this lingers with a refinement and suggestions of minerality that many a Macon selling for up to twice the price would envy. It should be enjoyed over the coming year. Jean-Marc Lafage and Eric Solomon continue to render truly mind-boggling values.

Great White Burgundy --
2007 Domaine Perraud Macon Villages......$12.99
"Vieille Vignes"
This is an amazing white Burgundy that is 100% Chardonnay. Surprisingly these grape all come from St. Veran and Pouilly Fuisse without the high price you usually get from those two areas. The wine is certified organic from very low yields and the vines are very old. The wine has a great mineral streak going through the middle with a touch of lime and acidity on the finish. There is a great round mouthfeel to keep it all put together in perfect harmony.
