Hitachino...

2009 Hitachino Nest Commemorative Ale....$4.49 / 11.2 oz
We have 1 bottle left of the 2008

From Japan's Most Prestigious Brewery
"Hitachino Nestbeer Commemorative Ale is brewed in the tradition of a true Eisbock where the brew is concentrated by allowing the water to freeze {but not the alcohol}. After the mashing of five different malts {Pale, Munich, Crystal, Chocolate , and wheat} four differing types of hops are added in the brewkettle for bitterness & aroma {Styrian Goldings, Hallertauer, Tettnang, Saaz} . Five different spices complete the Commemorative Ale recipe {coriander, orange peel, nutmeg, cinnamon & vanilla beans}. After a freezing period of three days at 24F {= -4C} the frozen water & protein are removed. The bottle conditioning will then ring in a six month maturation time in the bottle. Enjoy Kiuchi's Hitachino Commemorative Ale while you forget the worries and troubles of the old year!" -- importer

FYI -- other Eisbocks we carry...
Schneider Aventinus Eisbock
Kulmbacher Eisbock

"Eisbocks are created by freezing off a portion of the water, and removing it from the beer. This form of concentration, of sorts, increases the beer's body, flavor, and alcohol content. They can range from near black to as light as tawny red. Hop bitterness and flavor are mostly cast aside with a big alcohol presence replacing it, which can range from sweet to spicy, and fruity to often times fusel. Look for a heavy or almost syrupy body with tons of malty flavor." -- www.beeradvocate.com
